Meet The Chef

John is a Petoskey native who from a young age developed a love for cooking. Growing up, you'd find John foraging for morels and wild leeks, fishing on Walloon lake, and over time continued to become more creative in his culinary endeavors while cherishing local ingredients.
When he decided to turn his passion and natural talent into a career, John attended culinary school at the Secchia Institute in Grand Rapids. In those formative years he continued growing his craft in school while having the opportunity to cater large groups as well as to performers as a chef at the Van Andel Arena. He returned to Northern Michigan where John has since spent his time in favorite area restaurants including:
-Bay Harbor Yacht Club, Sous Chef
-Barrel Back Restaurant, Executive Chef
-Douglas Lake Bar and Steakhouse (DLB), Executive Chef
Working in restaurant kitchens has been John's life for much of his career, but one thing he enjoys most is interaction with guests who share a passion for great food. Who, while enjoying together, create cherished memories around a dinner table.
Chef John Murner, a Boutique Catering Company, was born from that sense of enjoyment - for good people surrounded by great grub.

We had a fantastic experience with Chef John catering our small event. Not only was the food incredible, but John was so fun to work with! We did the curated dining experience and I didn't have to lift a finger. The table decor was stunning, beverages were flowing, and my kitchen was left cleaner than ever. Thank you!
