Meet the Chef – John Murner 

Born and raised in Petoskey, Chef John Murner has always had a deep connection to Northern Michigan’s rich culinary landscape. From a young age, he found joy in foraging for morels and wild leeks, fishing on Walloon Lake, and experimenting with fresh, local ingredients. This early passion for food naturally evolved into a lifelong pursuit of culinary excellence.  

John honed his skills at the **Secchia Institute for Culinary Education** in Grand Rapids, where he not only refined his craft but also gained invaluable experience catering large events and serving performers as a chef at Van Andel Arena. His love for Northern Michigan ultimately brought him back home, where he played key roles in some of the region’s most beloved restaurants:

While restaurant kitchens have been his second home, John’s greatest fulfillment comes from connecting with people who share a love for great food—guests who gather to create cherished memories around a dinner table. That passion led to the creation of Chef John's Boutique Catering, where every meal is crafted with care, using the finest local ingredients, and served with a personal touch.
